EV Charger Grants and Subsidies in the UK (2025)

There are several government grants available to help with the cost of a home EV charger installation. Here's what's currently available and who qualifies.

The UK government is committed to supporting the transition to electric vehicles and offers a number of grant schemes to reduce the cost of installing home and workplace EV chargers.

Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Grant (EVCG) for Homeowners

The main grant for domestic EV charger installations is the Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Grant (EVCG), administered by OZEV (Office for Zero Emission Vehicles) via the DVLA.

Who qualifies:

  • You must own, lease or have ordered an eligible plug-in vehicle (battery electric or plug-in hybrid)
  • Your property must be in England, Scotland or Wales
  • You must be the owner or primary user of the parking space where the charger is installed
  • The charger must be installed by an OZEV-registered installer

What it covers:

The grant provides 75% of the cost of purchase and installation of a home charge point, up to a maximum of £350 (including VAT).

How to apply:

The grant is typically claimed by the installer on your behalf at the time of installation. You don't need to apply directly — just confirm with your installer that they are OZEV-registered and will apply the grant.

EV Charger Grant for Renters and Flat Owners

The EV charger grant is also available to those living in rented accommodation or leasehold flats, subject to the same vehicle ownership criteria. For flats, the property manager or landlord may need to be involved in the installation.

Landlord Grant

Landlords can apply for funding to install chargepoints at rented domestic properties. The grant covers 75% of costs up to £350 per socket.

Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS)

For businesses, the Workplace Charging Scheme provides a voucher towards the cost of installing EV charge points at business premises. This covers up to 75% of costs, up to £350 per socket, with a maximum of 40 sockets per applicant.

Things to Note

  • The grant amounts and eligibility criteria are subject to change — always check the current OZEV guidance before installation
  • The charger must meet OZEV's technical requirements (smart charger with randomised delay, 7kW minimum)
  • OZEV-registered installers handle the grant application process

At Onyx Electrical Solutions, we are OZEV-registered and can apply the relevant grant on your behalf at the time of installation. Call 07000 000000 for a free EV charger survey and quote.
